Andreas Wachter
Daring compositions, striking lighting effects, a stimulating colour concept and, last but not least, a virtuoso, technically brilliant style characterise Andreas Wachter's painting. Born in Chemnitz in 1951, he is now considered one of the outstanding representatives of the »Leipzig School«. In his work, which has grown steadily over four decades, he combines the high standard of drawing typical of Leipzig with an extraordinary colourism of his own.

Andreas Wachter is not interested in repeating the familiar vocabulary of classical pictorial subjects. He is attracted to visual sensations, the posture of a figure, any detail that demands attention, a mood created by light, an everyday scene with a bizarre or even comical character. He has developed a sensitive sensory perception for all these things, which reacts to the slightest deviation from the familiar and relates it to thoughts or feelings that he does not want to discuss publicly in his pictures. This expresses a fundamental sense of metaphysics, of the mysterious and inexplicable, of the hidden treasures of a world that appears unremarkable at first glance. However, the secrets of our existence are not analytically dissected in his pictures. No, he collects the suspicious moments that hint at a truth behind the merely visible and preserves these wonderful moments like dream sequences in sometimes enchantingly beautiful pictures.
