Christiane Wachter, Roland Zigan
Collage & Sculpture

20. June 2025 — 30. August 2025

The exhibition promises an exciting dialogue with collages and mixed media works by Christiane Wachter and bronze sculptures by Roland Zigan. Two artists who trained at Burg Giebichenstein in Halle/Saale and whose works explore the dissolution of corporality and contour. Christiane Wachter's figures, often sketched in outline and formed using stencils and paper, meet Roland Zigan's gaunt, fragile, sometimes fragmented bronze figures with their rugged, fissured surfaces.

Introduction

Christiane Wachter combines the unique aesthetic qualities of all kinds of paper with economical primers, overpainting and stenciled outlines. Her basic approach is deeply painterly. At their core, her pictures are paintings that use collage as a medium and material. The experimental and open approach to materials and techniques requires close observation in order to fully appreciate the sophistication and mastery of these impressive works.

Roland Zigan's fragile-looking, elongated and fragmented bronze figures are an expression of his quest to explore the outer appearance and inner essence of human beings under the conditions of human existence, the conditio humana. Each of the figures embodies dignity and beauty, but also fragility and vulnerability. The corrosive dynamics of the surfaces reveal the sculptor, who trained at Burg Giebichenstein in Halle, as a representative of modern existentialism.
