Gerda Lepke
Gerda Lepke's lyrical imagery is concrete, unmistakably expressed inner vision. Ever-growing, increasingly dense and deepening layers of lines, brushstrokes, drops of paint and splashes give rise to colour structures and line formations that only appear abstract at first glance. They reveal a dynamic and translucent representation of landscape and people that always originates from the object itself.

Gerda Lepke's medium of expression is the drawn, swinging line, the powerful or even suggestive stroke, whether it is drawn with a pen in black ink, with colored oil crayons or with a brush and watercolor or oil paint. The free, often dance-like play of the line can be sweeping, energetic, briefly hatching, densely overlapping, openly extending, searching and floating, and appear in the painting as a brushstroke, drop, throw, trace or chain of dots.

Gerda Lepke's visual interest is primarily focused on the changes that light, wind and time leave on her motifs. As the wind sweeps over the leaves and drives the clouds before it, as the light changes within a short space of time, it is important to paint fast. There are paintings that she can only continue working on at a certain time of day - when the light is right. She then ″runs after″ the clouds and the light, as she calls it.
