Tanja Pohl
Tanja Pohl, a painter and graphic artist living in Greiz, Thuringia, studied under Elke Hopfe and Christian Macketanz at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden (Dresden Academy of Fine Arts). She is a master of variation. Her print works are characterised by a movement, even musicality, that springs from an intoxicating process. Her work is an experimental and radical process that resembles an adventure. Each completed sheet reveals an unpredictable and unique result.

Tanja Pohl's industrial themes have no place, no time. They refuse to be described in an illusionistic way. They also reject any moralising interpretation. Art in Variation does not believe in the empirical image of the world, not in ‘what the world wants us to believe’ (Milan Kundera). It plays with it, is aware of how it works, and leaves the viewer in no doubt about this. It wants to be invention with all freedom and all seriousness.

Time means change, everything is subject to it. From the very beginning. Only rectangles and circles, surfaces and lines remain constant. That's what interests me.
