The painter Johnny Friedlaender (1912–1992) was a passionate graphic artist and pioneer of modern colour etching. He complemented the traditional technique of etching with his own style, which he refined through constant experimentation. Friedlaender was a master student of Otto Mueller at the Academy of Arts in Breslau. After spending time in Dresden and other places, Friedlaender moved to Paris in 1937, where he gained great recognition as an artist. His unique colour etchings continue to receive worldwide acclaim to this day.
